About TYPS

TYPS facts

Established in 1995, TYPS is a non-profit, charitable organization serving young people aged 12 to 18 in Almonte and the surrounding area.

History

TYPS was formed after a group of caring youth and adult volunteers came together to address the needs of local youth in Almonte. After a few changes of location, TYPS has run a busy youth centre in downtown Almonte since 1995.

Programs

TYPS offers varied programs, workshops, classes and events for local youth — everything from sign-language instruction and job-skills training to suicide intervention and cooking lessons.

Mission statement

TYPS provides the youth of Mississippi Mills with accessible, inclusive programs that develop job skills, promote strong citizenship values and address challenges commonly faced by youth, such as delinquency and substance abuse.

Community partnerships

TYPS collaborates with local, national and international organizations, and with local schools and volunteer networks. TYPS has a volunteer board of directors with representation from the community, and offers placements for college/university students in community development.
