Youth Services Worker – Job Description
Position purpose: The Youth Services Worker is responsible for developing, managing, and delivering the in-centre after-school program.
Reports to: Executive Director.
Hours: Part time (25 hrs/week) at $15/hour.
General Duties:
1. Development
-In consultation with staff and youth, and with research into centre best-practices, develop a schedule of activities for the after-school program, including nutrition support programs.
-Recruit volunteers to serve as resources for diverse educational, recreational, and skills-building workshops, talks, and activities to be delivered in-centre.
-Create special events at the centre to mark holidays, graduations, etc.
-Youth board to help make decisions about TYPS programming.
-Consult with Executive Director and Outreach Worker to optimize use of resources, coordinate activities, plan future initiatives, and ensure consistency with agency mandate and mission.
2. Implementation
-Deliver after-school programming.
-In collaboration with the Executive Director, recruit, train, schedule, and supervise casual staff and volunteers to work in the after-school and summer programs as needed.
-Maintain a running inventory of centre resources, such as groceries, art supplies, etc., and a prioritized list of centre needs.
-In consultation with the Executive Director and within budgetary restrictions, replenish centre supplies as necessary.
-Ensure that the centre is welcoming, well maintained, safe, clean and tidy.
-Keep systematic, reliable records of participation, expenditures, volunteer hours, and program evaluations.
-Inform the Executive Director of critical incidents and events with potentially negative impacts for TYPS.
-Collaborate with Outreach Worker to coordinate youth volunteer placements with TYPS projects and other community groups.
-Participate in skills development training as needed.
3. Reporting
-Conduct quarterly evaluations of after-school programming.
-Communicate regularly with Outreach Worker to provide content for centre publicity and advertising.
4. Other duties as required.
Evaluation:
Performance review at the end of the first three month period and every four months thereafter.
Indicators of success:
-Increasing rates of youth participating in after-school programs.
-Sound management of centre resources to deliver maximum value within budgetary restrictions.
-Diverse and stimulating program offerings.
-All management expectations have been met.
Qualifications:
-Completion of a BSW, SSW, or Child and Youth Worker program, or equivalent.
-Minimum of two years experience in education, youth services, or the non-profit social services sector.
-Minimum of one year of experience in supervision and/or human resource management.
-Strong ability to communicate verbally with a broad range of audiences.
-Appreciation for youth culture.
-Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
-Ability to work independently.
-Ability to manage the centre as the sole employee on duty.
-Sound judgment.
-Ability to work flexible hours as required.

The Night of Stars
The TYPS Youth Centre Night of Stars is an annual celebration of phenomenal youth from the community, as well as our many supporters who contribute so much to the continuing success of the centre. All members of the community are welcome to join us at TYPS, 65 Mill St. (near the Barley Mow) on Saturday, December 10th from 7-9pm for an evening of entertainment, sweet treats, and the presentation of our annual youth awards! TYPS Youth have also been working on coconut birdfeeders to sell as a fundraiser. They will be available for sale for 2 for $20 at the event, or you can call the centre a 613-256-8485 to place an order.
TYPS Celebrates Local Youth: A Call for Nominations
Do you know a young person between the ages of 12-18 years old from Mississippi Mills that deserves to be recognized for that successful fundraiser they organized, or for speaking out about bullying? Help TYPS Almonte’s Youth Centre recognize youth in the community for exemplary character, community service, creativity, or achievement.
Nominated youth will be publicly awarded at TYPS Youth Centre’s “Night of Stars” on December 10th from 7-9pm. The entire community is invited to celebrate local youth, enjoy music performed by local youth, and enjoy some tasty treats.
If you would like to nominate a young person you know, call TYPS at 613-256-8485 or email Rachel@typsyouthcentre.org. Nominations must include your name and contact information, the nominee’s name, age, phone number and the reason why this individual deserves to be celebrated.
The deadline for nominations is December 2nd at 5pm.

TYPS Youth Centre Annual Silent Auction!
It’s that time of year again, the TYPS Youth Centre Silent Auction is soon to be underway! Bidding opens on Friday, September 16th, with bids being taken at The Night is Young concert at the Almonte Old Town Hall from 6:30pm-8:30pm, and then continuing at TYPS from 8:30pm-10pm (with refreshments being served!) Bidding will remain open until 11:59 pm on Friday, September 23rd. Bids can be made by phone (613-256-8485), by email (rachel@typsyouthcentre.org), or by visiting the centre in person between 2:30pm and 8pm, Monday-Friday.

Our next Skate Park Trip is coming up on Thursday, August 18th to Legacy Skate Park! The trip is from 1pm-5pm, and the cost is $5.
